The Volkswagen Jetta TDI is set to make a huge impact in the United States. The 2.0 litre engine runs on diesel. A few years ago that would have been a very unattractive prospect, but now diesel along with many other fuel saving type vehicles are being taken too by American motorists as the cost to keep a car on the road is continuously on the rise.
The vehicle’s engine will contain turbocharged direct injection technology, helping to place the fuel exactly where it belongs, bringing about more economy.
What’s special about this vehicle? You don’t have to drive in a certain way to take advantage of the car’s economical benefits, like you may have to with electric of hybrid cars. From that perspective it could be argued that we may not be quite ready for next generation vehicles such as electric or hybrid cars.
Being tested in America, it’s economy rating of fuel consumption and carbon emissions have been heavily praised. In fact some real life driving tests have given back better results than what some hybrid vehicles may give back.
Looks wise, it’s not the most modernised or the best looking family saloon you will ever see. In fact it is clear to see that Volkswagen have kept their traditions from the start with the styling policy. But does that matter? Why radically change what is a decent looking vehicle. We believe the target market will find the vehicle extremely design wise.
The same philosophy applies to inside the vehicle. The design has an old fashioned look about it, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. A neat feature upon the Highline trim is the heated leather seats, showing there are luxury features where necessary. Nothing really goes overboard. Performance wise, you don’t get too many thrills. But if you purchase a car like this, would you want to? The car delivers a total of 140 BHP. That’s quite a respectable figure considering that the car is more of an economical choice.
The versions with the double clutch 6 speed automated Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) deliver a wonderful and enjoyable driving experience. You can get excitement out of the vehicle but that’s when you push it very hard. The speed of the car from take-off may surprise you.
We believe that many will be tempted to go for the diesel variant of the Jetta this time round, it does sound like a magnificent family car to own.
