Our article today has two interesting pieces of news. Firstly Skoda have produced their 14th millionth car and have also appointed a new Managing Director in India. We take a look at both stories today.
Skoda sell 14 million vehicles this year
Skoda have produced it’s 14 millionth car in the company’s history. The car in question was the new Superb 2.0 TDI rolled out on the production line at the company’s Kvasiny plant. This is quite a significant achievement for Skoda’s 117 year history.
HC Winfried Vahland – Excellent achievement
Professor Dr HC Winfried Vahland said that meeting such a target represented just how great Skoda’s growth strategy is. He said “This jubilee is an impressive expression of our growth strategy. We are expanding at a high speed. Almost two thirds of the 14 million cars built by the company were produced and sold in the past 20 years, four million of which were produced in the past 5 years alone.”
Sudhir Rao appointed new Skoda India Managing Director
Mr Sudhir Rao has been appointed as the new Skoda Auto India Managing Director. At 52 he will enter his new job role from the 1st of March. Formerly of Renault, Mr Rao will bring a wealth of experience to the company. Winfried Vahland the current Chief Executive of Skoda has spoken of his admiration for the company’s latest employee. He believes that Skoda India will progress wonderfully into the future with him onboard.
Mr Rao has worked in the US as well Europe and India. His diversity and in depth knowledge of the automotive industry will bring about great prosperity for the Indian division of Skoda.
After leaving Renault India Mr Rao released a statement saying that his achievements have been met with Renault India so he has decided to seek new challenges. His exact words were “I have decided to move on from Renault as the primary objective for which I came to the company, which was to create a new phase for Renault in India, has been achieved. It is, therefore, time to move on to other challenges.”
Worldwide sales account for 1.5 million. India is a very crucial market place for Skoda. Skoda will target over 30,000 sales next in India alone after growing by 50 % last year. A strong performance in India will greatly affect Skoda’s worldwide goals.
