The Volkswagen Golf is a vehicle that has consistently sold well in the UK for a long time now. There have been many versions of the vehicle including model styles, amount of doors and seven different generations spanning from 1974 to the present. But now, Volkswagen has created a new Golf to add to the many we have already seen. The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S is the new addition to the family and we welcome it with open arms.
The Clubsport S shall most certainly be welcomed warmly for one main reason, it has just broken a new record. The car is now the fastest front wheel drive vehicle to get round the Nürburgring in Nürburg. The Golf completed the lap in 7:49:21 beating the previous record holder, the Honda Civic Type R which completed the lap in 7:50:63. But scarily, there is a new version of the Honda Civic Type R in production so expect the new record to be tested very shortly.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S does indeed sport an impressive powertrain. The vehicle can produce 306 horsepower, 208 lbs of torque and will do 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds. That really is not a bad time at all for a VW Golf to complete the acceleration test in. There is also special suspension, a unique chassis and platform added too so the car will really be able to perform. The engine is also stolen from the Volkswagen Gold TCR race car from the TCR International Series. When the TCR engine is added with a new fuel pump, exhaust system, aerodynamic body and the back seats removed, it is not surprising that the Clubsport S managed to brake the Nürburgring record.
There will only be 400 units sold though. One hundred of these will be sold just in Germany so it will be very difficult for you to purchase one if you wanted to.
